Building a Fishing Bait Trap On Your Next Camping/Fishing Trip

You know what? You can spend an absolute fortune on fishing, what with lines, rods and lures and still be shown up by the young kid passing by with a sinker and hand reel.

Sometimes the simplest approach is the best way especially when you’ve got a couple of kids scratching for something do. Take this homemade fish trap, it’s fast, fun and really easy to make, super cheap and clear so the kids can really see what’s going on.

    How it's done

What you need to get the job done is an old plastic bottles or maybe two, some duct tape, a rope to retrieve it and a pair of scissors or razor blade.

First, start by removing the top half of your soft-drink bottle and then inserting it backwards into the bottom half of the bottle. You can use duct tape it in place, or punch a few holes and stitch it together using a bit of string.

Next, you need to punch two holes in the side of the drink container, and feed through the end piece of the rope and then tie it up near top so that when it’s lifted the drink bottle base sits at the bottom.

A couple of holes in the base of the drink bottle container will allow the water to drain as you pull the line out of the water.

    How to use it?

To use, chuck in a bit of bait through the mouth of the drink bottle nozzle so it sits in the large half or the base before dropping it into the water, being sure to hang onto the line.

    So how does it work?

The fish trap works by attracting and guiding the fish into the funnel-shaped vessel to eat the bait, where it struggles to escape due to the very small hole.
