Can you really make a campfire feed for less than $10? Absolutely! Check out our top cheap eats!
Spending just $10 on a campsite meal seems easy, right? A few snags and you’re done! But if you want to get a little fancy, the cost of spices and sauces quickly rack up. Never fear, if you’re thrifty, you can pick up a few bargains at the local market to liven up your meal – we found bunches of coriander for just 79c a bunch!
For a total of $9.61
Firstly fry the onion on a skillet at low heat until soft then add the garlic and chilli then set aside to cool. Place your mince in a bowl and grate the roll or, of course, a few bread crumbs. Add the rind and a handful of coriander (finely chopped) then bind it together with a splash of sweet chilli sauce. Add in the rind, a fistful of finely chopped coriander and the onion, garlic and chilli.
Roll the mix into balls and flatten to fry. I like to bake in an alloy-lined camp oven first for 15 or so minutes but you just fry it until they’re cooked through. Next, soak the noodles in warm water per the instructions and serve with more chilli sauce. Too easy!
For a total of $10.00
Here’s one that’s super easy that will bring kids back to base camp with just one whiff. Start by pre-heating the camp oven and combine three parts tomato sauce to one part Worcestershire in a separate bowl (you can also add some sliced onion and garlic). Then, pour all the ingredients into the camp oven ensuring the mixture covers the drummies. Place the oven on a thin bed of coals with a shovel or two up top for an even heat then kick back and let it simmer for a couple of hours.
You’ll know it’s ready when the meat falls off the bone! Serve them up with a bit of rice and mashed potato for a sensational feast.

Here’s a quick and easy recipe the kids will love that’s cutlery free!
Strip the chicken meat and from the bones discard the skin and chop coarsely. Add to a preheated and oiled hot pan and brown the meat. Next, cook the onion on a low heat until soft and translucent. Mix in four tablespoons of hoisin sauce then spoon the mixture into lettuce cups. Dinner is served.
